Need help with instructions Winwick Mum Basic 4-Ply knee high socks…

I am not very experienced or good with math so having difficulty figuring out the following instructions for this pattern. I am not sure what to do after finishing the Ribbing. I have 100 stitches on the needle to start the leg.

The pattern says to knit as many stitches as you will need across the top of your foot, then Place a marker then in brackets ( eg. If you want to work your foot on 72 stitches, work 36 stitches then place a marker). Does this mean 72 stitches when using the original cast on figure of 92 stitches?

I am using the 2nd with cast on of 100 stitches. I am not really familiar with this kind of pattern and the calculations.

My for my size I casted on 100 stitches, so using the formula above of 72 etc. I would have 14 stitches left after doing the division of 2.

You need to measure the width of your foot at the ball of the foot. Then you can use your stitch gauge to convert the inches to number of sts. That’s the number of stitches that you need to get to by decreasing between the calf and the heel flap.
There’s a nice tutorial that takes you through the math and also a video (really annoying ads but persevere). See about 1/3 of the way down the page.

Once you know how many sts you need for the foot, you can plan out the instep and the decreases on the back of the leg to get from 100sts to that number.

I finally got it and am working down the leg. Hope they fit when complete.
Thanks for your help.

Looking good!

I ended up frogging this and starting anew, because the lace pattern didn’t fit. They are now finished and I am quite happy with them!
