Need help with directions for stitch pattern

Hi everyone - I’m working on a swatch for “Furrows” stitch pattern, the first pattern repeat is k1, slip 1 wyib, k1, p3 and the following row instructs to knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches.

I’m not sure whether I should slip as if to knit or slip as if to purl, and on the following row if I should treat this as a knit or a purl stitch.

This is the link but you need to be registered with the site, knittingfool.com to access this page:

When you slip a stitch that you don’t work on again on the same row slip it purlwise. Slip knitwise when you do a decrease.

And, for this pattern, the slipped stitch is purled on the next row. You can see a slightly elongated line of Vs for the slipped stitches running up the pattern.

:muah: Thank you so much with your help with the slip stitch. I had never been able to figure out why using a slip stitch at the beginning of a row was not working for me; it never turned out quite like the pictures.
I am working on a swatch and thought I would try slipping the first stitch purlwise - it works!
