Need help with cable cap sleeve.

Hi all, looking for some help with the cap sleeve portion of a cable sweater. The pattern sees below:

Sleeves:
Cast on 74 sts and work 24 rows in Fancy Pattern.
For the Cap Shaping, on Row 25 from beg, bind off 4 sts at each end, then 3 sts on every
2nd row once, 2 sts 3 times, 1 st 15 times and 3 sts twice.
On Row 44 from beg, bind off remaining 6 sts.

It’s when I have to start shaping the cap until row 44 I can’t fit the binding off into the rows between 25 - 44. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to KH!
I see the problem. There just aren’t enought rows to get in all the decrease rows that are called for. The decreases do add up to take you from 74sts to 6 but it requires more rows.
What is the name of your pattern and the designer?

Hi Salmonmac, thank you .

This is the link to the pattern, it took awhile for me to understand the rows for the body as well buy have managed to figure that out - https://knit-charts.com/knitting-for-woman/item/v-neck-pullover-in-fancy-pattern-269.html

Hello
After a bit of investigation I believe I have worked out the error.
If you look at the schematic for the sleeve there are two measurements.
The first part is straight, this measures 8cm which works out at the gauge (30 row = 10cm) to be 24 rows. This is the 24 rows in fancy pattern.
The second part is shaped for the sleeve cap, this measures 15cm which works out at the gauge to be 45 rows.
The shaping given for the sleeve cap, if worked every other row as is given, is 44 rows which is close enough to 45 (the last bind off row takes from each end using only one row instead of two to perform).

Therefore when you bind off 4 each side for the underarm call this row 1 (not row 25, you start counting rows again from 1 here), work 44 rows of shaping and the sleeve and sleeve cap should be complete and the correct size as given in the pattern (full length from bottom of sleeve to top seam is 23cm).

It’s a shame the pattern is written incorrectly but hopefully you can now successfully finish this.
I hope to see a photo when you’ve finished, it’s a pretty top.

Thanks for the pattern information. It’s a beautiful sweater and well worth figuring out the row numbers. Thanks Creations for making sense of the sleeves!

Very nice sleuthing, Creations!

I was going to suggest looking at the schematic, but I wouldn’t have been able to “do the math”.

Thanks. The maths was the easy bit, I spent 30 minutes translating Spanish before I realised the translation was correct and looked elsewhere for a clue! Mister can touch type in Spanish but I am basically an “hola” and “gracias” person, languages are not in my skill set.

Thank you so much your help in finding the answer. I would have never thought of looking at the schematic. I am returning to knitting after some years so am relearning.

I will definitely post a picture once I have completed it.
