Need help with bootie pattern

I am making baby booties using the pattern found here
http://www.angels4preemies.com/easybootiesbygina.html

I have weaved the yarn through the remaining 15 sts, but I am confused as to where the “top of the toe” is that I should sew up. Should this be gathered? Also, at the top of the pattern it refers to the 12" tail being used to sew up the back, but at the bottom it says it should be used to sew up the toe.

Basically I feel like I have no idea where the toe, back, front and bottom of this thing is. What should be sewn up and what should be left open? Help! If you can’t help with this pattern, could you suggest a preemie bootie pattern that is eay to understand? Thanks so much!

It looks like you gather the toe by pulling the string through twice and pulling to make it snug. Then, the pattern wants you to sew up the top of the foot to the ankle. Or, sew the sides of the ‘rectangle’ together so it kinda looks like a cone/ But stop before you get the the corners so there is room to put the babies foot in. The with the extra 12" on the cast on sew up the back of the foot to the corners.

They are adorable booties! I am sure the baby receiving them will love them!

Thanks for responding, Deja. I tried gathering the toe and sewing up the back, but it looks more like a hat than a bootie! It seems that the shaping just isn’t turning out right. Maybe I made a mistake somewhere along the way.

Looked at the pattern.
There is no way that could turn out the way shown on the pictures.
Even (which seems to be the case) knit in the round.

If you want easy booties, why not try these. They are quick and easy.

For help on row 25, I made two videos.

TexasMama, I totally agree with blueygh2. There is no way your booties are going to look like the picture, they are going to look like a rectangle with a hole in the top. Functional yes (will not stay on feet well!) but not at all pretty. Here are a couple sites of some cute booties. I made the 1st and last booties right after my 6 mo old was born. Worked great for her. Hope you find something you like!

The horrendous thing is, they don’t even specify that it should be knit in the round… As if it was obvious…

I recognized the peculiar pattern that you get when you decrease in the round. Otherwise I wouldn’t have known either.

It’s no wonder people get frustrated with knitting, especially beginners, when they get such “easy beginner patterns”…

Either way, I wonder what the picture does refer to, because it doesn’t refer to the booties.

It sounds like you thread the tail through the toe sts (the live ones left on your needle) then use it to also sew up the seam, wherever the 2 edges should be.

But it states “easy beginner pattern”, or something like that, and if it really is as you say, then it is not really clear to me how to sew up, let alone a beginning knitter…

Thanks guys! I am glad to know the pattern didn’t match the pictures, because I thought I must have made a huge mistake. I will try some of the other patterns. Thanks so much!

I’ve just done a bootie pattern myself and it’s simple to do all you do is when you have finshed the project is to sew the heel and leg. But I don’t know how to put it on here so you can have a go yourself.
