I’d downloaded from Ravelry this basic sock pattern to try my first pair of socks but I can’t find the gauge nowhere in the pattern. I’d searched the site and the designer’s blog but I couldn’t find it. Does somebody out there know or has tried this pattern and can tell me. Thanks!
Hi!
we can not help if you do not link the pattern. Sorry.
Basic sock patterns there are many. And we can not tell you anything about that specific pattern of yours without knowing it.
About gauge in general: knit a swatch (best work it in the round, so you work as if making a sock). measure on the swatch.
you want your sock fitting you (or whoever it is for): measure your foot at the widest part. Then deduct a little of that measure (an inch I usually do). That is the measure I want to achive. Then I caluclate my sock.
With your pattern we can probably help you more.
that’s a great tip! Thanks.

I didn’t see a gauge listed either. It seems like this is more of a tutorial than a specific pattern (although you do, of course, end up with a pair of socks in the end). Two sizes are given and are meant to fit a wide range of foot sizes.
If you want to use this pattern/tutorial, you could think about measuring your gauge using the yarn and needles you’ve chosen to see how big your end result will be and then judge which of the two sizes seems most appropriate for you.
Yes, this is a tutorial. Figure out what gauges you get on both needles suggested, then divide the sts per inch into the stitch numbers given. That will give you a measurement and you can decide which needle and which size you need for your foot; measurement should be a little less than your foot actually measures.
