Need help with baby blanket pattern please!

I have started to knit a baby blanket that is circular. The instructions go as follows:
CO 6 std. Place 2 sts on each of three dpn
RND 1: knit
RND2: KFB 6 times - 12 sts
RND 3: knit
RND 4: KFB 12 times - 24 sts
RND5: knit. Cut a join b
RND 6: with b purl

Now here is where I am stuck:
RND 7: *K1, YO, K1, YO, K1; repeat from * around - 40 sts.

I continue to get 48 stitches. I start with 8 stitches on each of the three needles. For every stitch I knit, I then yarn over. That DOUBLES the stitch count. So I then tried not adding the YO after the last stitch on each DPN. This results in seven stitches added per needle. This brings the total to 45.

I have tried to chart this out but still the numbers don’t work out. The pattern continues for another Color change and two knit rows followed by a purl row and then:

RND 11: K2, YO, K1, YO, PM, K2; repeat from around - 56 STS.

NOW I am thinking I should follow the pattern in round 11 for round 7 but I’m afraid it will throw off the design. Any thoughts or helpful advice? I spent a good deal of money on this project and I would hate to abandon it. Thank you fellow knitters!

RND

RND 7: *K1, YO, K1, YO, K1; repeat from * around - 40 sts.

There is no YO after the last K.

Ok I think I got it. When I repeat that pattern I got thirteen stitches on needle one, fourteen on needle two and thirteen on needle three. The stitch count is correct. Yeah! Thank you so much for removing my mental block!

Yes, for every 3sts, you increase 2 sts (K1, YO, K1, YO, K1) so for 24sts that’s an increase 16sts. 16sts plus the 24 you have will give you the 40sts.
