Need help with a pattern

I need help with a raglan sleeve. It has been years since I have done a sweater. I have uploaded the pattern and am just starting the sleeves but I don’t understand the part where it starts the increase. Can someone help?

Left sleeve: With size 6 mm needles cast on 34 sts. Next row
(WS): Selvage st, * p2tbl, k2; rep from *, end selvage st. Cont
in twisted rib as established until piece meas 6 cm from cast-
on, ending with a WS row. Work in St st and shape sleeve as
foll: Working full-fashion inc, inc 1 st at each end of 9 (5, 5)th
row, then every 8th row 3 times, then every alt 6th and 8th
row 7 times (then every 6th row 13 times / then every alt 4th
and 6th row 16 times) = 56 (62, 68) sts. Work even until piece
meas 50 cm from cast-on, ending with a WS row. Shape
sleeve cap: Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows = 52 (58, 64)
sts. Working full-fashion dec, dec 1 st at each end of next RS
row, then every alt 2nd and 4th row 14 (10, 6) times, then
every alt row 3 (10, 17) times = 16 sts. Next row (WS): Bind off
5 sts, work to end. Next row (RS): Dec 1 st, work to end. Rep
last 2 rows 1 more time. Next row (WS): Bind off rem 4 sts.

Welcome to the forum!
Which size are you making, the 1st, 2nd or 3rd?

Hi, :slightly_smiling_face:
I am making the 3rd size. I am hoping someone understands what the pattern increases mean. I understand to inc after the 5th row and inc on the 8th rows 3 times but lost after that. If you get it I would really appreciate your help.

You’re to alternate between increases every 4th row and every 6th row. If you call the last of the 8th row increases row 1, then increase on rows 5, 11; 15,21; 25,31; 35,41 etc until you’ve worked the increases 16 times (68sts).

Thank you so much. I have been struggling with the sleeves for over a week. Can I ask how you understood how to do the increases with everything that was written, including what was in the brackets. I still am not sure how to read all instructions. I will understand if this is too loaded or time consuming a question. I just want to be able to help others later on.

Work in St st and shape sleeve as
foll: Working full-fashion inc, inc 1 st at each end of 9(5, 5)th
row, then every 8th row 3 times, then every alt 6th and 8th
row 7 times (then every 6th row 13 times / then every alt 4th
and 6th row 16 times) = 56 (62, 68) sts.

It’s a good question. After the increases every 8th row 3 times, for the 3rd size, the
only directions that apply are the “every alt 4th and 6th row 16 times”. So if we call the last of the 8th row increases row 1, the next 4th row is row 5. The next 6th row is row 11, the next 4th row is row 15, the next 6th row is row 21 and so on.

Although the pattern says to increase 16 times for your size, that works out to more than 68sts. Sixty-eight seems correct given the decreases that follow so instead of increasing 16 times, increase 13 times and you’ll have 68sts. It might be a good idea to check with the designer on this.

What is the name of the pattern?
