Need help with a mobius

I purchased a pattern for a mobius wrap. The instructions say to cast on, twist first 3 sts on LH needle around needle once, then knit. When I do that, there are 2 strands of yarn twisted over the LH needle in front of the 4th st. How do I deal with those strands of yarn?

Thats because the 4th st isn’t twisted. Most in the round patterns say ‘join, do not twist’ but this one wants you to put a twist in. So before you knit any sts to join, twirl the first couple sts around the needle to put in the twist. Then knit the first st and all the rest should be even with the first couple sts.

I completely understand everything you wrote up until the very last part of the last sentence, “all the rest should be even with the first couple sts.” I’ve tried this so many times, I just can’t get it to work right. I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. Would there be a video someplace to walk me through this? I went to 2 yarn shops and they didn’t get it either!

I don’t know of a video - what I meant was, you may have to continue twisting the rest of the sts so they’re aligned in the same direction as the first few of the row.

If it’s a matter of introducing a twist into the knitting you could taka a look at the video at the top of this page under Free Videos, Advanced Techniques, Circular Knitting. Part way through is a discussion of joining without a twist and you get to see what the twist looks like (and the twist is introduced on the right hand needle which is perhaps easier).
I’m curious why the instruction is to specifically twist the first 3 sts? How many sts are cast on? Could you quote just the first few lines of the pattern (not the whole pattern, please)?

I understand how to do the twist, just not how to actually knit the twisted stitches. I am so frustrated! The pattern states" Cast on 150 sts, twist first 3 cast-on sts on LH needle around needle once, knit first st as usual (this joins sts and creates a twist in mobius). The knit around. I can’t be the only person that doesn’t understand this. Maybe I’m making it harder than it needs to be? I just can’t do it.

Sorry. typo, Should say “Then knit around”

So it sounds like a simple twist, since it says “then knit around”. As Sue said, Put a twist in the sts and continue to follow that twist around. If you’ve ever knit something in the round before and made the mistake of not lining up your sts, you get an unwanted twist in the knitted piece. In your case, you want the twist.
Since you put the twist in before you join the sts for a round, I don’t think it matters where you introduce the twist. Try lining up the sts all around the needle and then twisting the sts on the right hand needle once around the needle (as demonstrated in the video). Then join for the round and knit. You won’t especially notice the twist until you’ve knit a few rounds.

You are overthinking it I think. Once you introduce a single twist in the first st (it doesn’t really need to be the first 3) then knit the next st, and all the ones after it. If the rest of the sts are lined up the wrong way to knit, then twist them as well so they line up with the first one.

One mobius pattern I did was in mosaic or seed stitch to make it reversible. It was knit flat like a long scarf. The ends were then twisted and seamed together. If all else fails and you really like the mobius pattern, you might try that.

I got it!! Thank you all for taking the time to help me with this.I think I was overthinking it. When I twisted the stitches on the right needle, everything just fell into place. Thank you, Salmonmac, for suggesting it. Now off to work on my mobius!!

I’m dee-lighted! Good for you. (My husband is from Rock River. Near you?)

We’re in Lorain, about half an hour from Rocky River.Ask your husband if he remembers Beardens. Great little restaurant that unfortunately closed recently. Thanks again for your help.
