Need Help with a HipKnitShop Pattern

Hi everyone!
I am working on my first bottom up sweater, the Fluffy Tulips Sweater by HipKnitShop. I am about to start the chart but am confused by the instructions, hoping someone can clarify. They state:

Continue on a 7 mm needle and work in Stocking St, increasing
evenly to 168 (180) 192 sts on the first round. Place a marker at the beginning and after 84 (90) 96 sts (marks front and
back piece). Work 1 (2) 2 rounds in Stocking St with the same color as for the rib.
The chart is worked over 12 stitches.
Knit 3 sts before starting on diagram. This is to center the flowers, so they look
nice under the neckline. You will have 14 (15) 16 flowers around the body.
Work the chart to the end

My question is… if i Knit 3 sts before starting the chart, that will throw off the chart sts count. Does this mean i need to cast on an extra 3 sts for a total of 183 before starting the chart?

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to KH!

Which size are you making, the middle size?
You don’t need to cast on extra sts. This is more that you shift the beginning of round to the right by 3sts.
The middle size would need the round to begin with the last 3sts of the chart in order to center the chart although not the middle petal of the tulip. (The middle petal would be off one stitch.) When you come around almost to the end of round you will join the rest of the chart to those first 3sts and complete that tulip.
It may help to mark off the current row in groups of 12 or 24 to make sure that the
tulips line up as you’d like.

Perfect look for spring on the US east coast where the tulips are just about to push up through the soil.

Thank you for your reply!! Ya, i am making the middle size.To clarify, does this mean that in order to shift the beginning of the round to the right by 3sts, i need to start the first round of the chart on the 3erd last stitch in the chart and the final stitches of that round would be the first 9 sts of the chart.

Hope that question was clear!
Thank you again!

Yes, that’s it. You’re working the chart with the last 3sts (10, 11, 12). At the end of round you will be left with sts 1-9 which will complete the chart.
Check to make sure that that aligns the pattern as you would like at the front neck.
