OK I am doing my first ever cable stitch and have gotten stuck. This is what the pattern says:
Rows 9, 19: K 1, *sl 1 as to k to holder in front of work, (k 1, p 1) twice, sl St from holder as to k, p 5, repeat from across, k last St.
I am on row 9 so far.
OK I got the stitch slipped to the cable needle and done the (k1, p1) twice. Now I need to slip the slipped stitch from the holder but I don’t know if I slip it it the right needle or back to the left and purl it with the next set of instructions.(continental knitter).
This sounds bizarre to me–
When you cable, you cross sts over each other. Usually the same number of sts. In other words, you might hold 2 sts in front, then knit 2, then knit those first 2 you were holding, for a total of 4 sts. But in this case, you’re going to pull that 1 st across 4 other sts-- that’s a very tight cable. I can’t tell from the instructions which needle you slip it to, that is, if you slip to the right as if it’s already been worked (that’s the way it reads to me) or if you put it back on the left needle so that you work it as part of the 5. How many sts are you supposed to have in that row all together (that will help figure this out, as to whether it’s part of the 5 or not)? And what is the pattern? If I see it, I can “read” the cabling. (Continental will make no difference)
Thank you for your insight on reading that confusing part of the pattern. I thought that was what I was supposed to to do but I wasn’t sure and didn’t want to make a mistake that would be hard to fix.
