I am attempting my first ever sweater, albeit one for a baby! I have all of the parts done and put together. Now I have to add a border of seed stitch all the way around the front sides and neck. The pattern says, for instance for the neck: “with RS facing, pick up 49 sts around the neck.” Question: Are there specific parts of existing stitches I’m supposed to “pick up?” Do I aim the needle between stitches??
picking up stitches actually means creating new ‘live’ sitches from your knitting, by incorporating your yarn into it. the video showing how to do this is here:http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/knitting-tips
sorry i’m not very good at describing it.
A lot of the times I cheat and use a crochet needle to pick up the stitches and then I slide them onto the knitting needle. It takes a little longer but I don’t have to worry about the stitch slipping off whenever I try to pick it up.
