I have a knitting pattern that begins with 22 CO sts, and then repeats rows 1 and 2 a certain number of times before having me increase on the following row to a total of 27 sts. The pattern then says to work 5 rows in the established pattern, using 3x3 ribbing for the center stitches. Previously on rows 1 and 2, where the center sts should be, I was either doing K2 or P2, depending on the row. If I use a 3x3 (K3, P3) ribbing in place of the K2 or P2, I will have a total of 6 stitches for the center instead of the previous 2 stitches. However, if I do this, I will still have one extra stitch on my needles, because I am using 6 stitches in the center where I did have 2 stitches before the increase row (22 plus 4 equals 26, but the pattern called for me to increase to 27 stitches, total). What am I supposed to do with the extra stitch? Any help is appreciated!!
Welcome to KH. Can you link to your pattern? Or what is it called and did you get it online, in a book, etc.
Thank you for the welcome! The pattern is the Elisbeth Headband by Chic Knits. I bought it from a knitting shop. I found a link online where you can buy the pattern and see pictures of the headband, but couldn’t find it posted anywhere for free. Here’s the link: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/elisbeth-headband
Thanks for the link. I’m not sure I can answer your question but for someone to be able to it would be helpful to know what the established pattern is. What are you doing on rows 1 and 2?
Cute headband!
Welcome to the forum!
If the pattern is asking for the increases over the center stitches the easiest way to do this and maintian a pretty pattern is to increase one stitch in each of the center cets of 2 sts. So over the center 5 sets of k2 or p2, increase one stitch in the middle to go from k2, p2, k2, p2, k2 to k3, p3, k3, p3, k3. You could pick up the bar between the sts to do this.
Cute headband pattern.
The pattern calls for me to CO 22 sts. Then:
Row 1: Sl1yib, K1, [P1, K1] twice (edge ribbing); [P2, K2] twice, P2 (center sts); [K1, P1] twice, K2 (edge ribbing).
Row 2: Sl1yif, P1, [K1, P1] twice (edge ribbing); [K2, P2] twice, K2 (center sts); [P1, K1] twice, P2 (edge ribbing).
I repeat this X number of times and then have a cable row. Following that, I repeat the established pattern (rows 1 and 2) X number of times. Then, I have another cable row and increase from 22 sts to 27 sts. Following that, I repeat the established pattern X number of times with center sts now as 3x3 ribbing.
When I typed the last message, I realized that the center sts included [P2, K2] twice, P2; not just the P2. So if I change that to [P3, K3] twice, P3, that fixes my problem. Thank you all for your help!!
