Need help on a pattern!

Hi! I’m fairly new to knitting, I have made a few hats and a blanket or 2. I’m doing a pattern for a beanie using circular needles where you cast on 108 stitches, and p3 k3 for a few rounds, and then start the lace pattern. The first 2 rows are just k and p, but the next row says yo, p1, k1, ssk, k2 and repeat til the end. But every time I end up with 4 stitches left. I’m not sure if its something I’m doing wrong or if its supposed to be that way? I’ve never knitted lace patterns before.

The pattern repeat is 6 sts and that works out evenly into 108 sts. It might be the way you’re doing the yarn over. It doesn’t use a stitch. You just move the yarn over the right needle to the back and then around to the front again to make the p1. It might help to put a marker in for the first couple of lace rounds, every 6sts or so.

Thank you!! I was doing a stitch along with the yo, and then p1, so I was counting it as 7 sts. That makes way more sense :slight_smile: thank you again!
