I am starting the Drops 78-11 Cardigan but my gauge is 20 stitches over 4" instead of the 21 it calls for. I want it to end up about 37", and DON’T want to go down a needle size. (The fabric is just too dense with a smaller needle.)
So here’s my question:
How many stitches do I cast on?
There’s a 7 stitch button band on both sides.
It looks from the chart that the pattern is a 7-stitch repeat. But none of the CO numbers are evenly divisible by 7. Am I counting wrong? Am I reading the chart wrong?
I’d appreciate it if someone could look at the pattern and help me out!
I had the same problem with a drops patttern, in the end I just cast on a number that was divisible by 7 or whatever the number was, and adjusting as I went along, not ideal, granted, but it seemed to work, as far as guage is concerned, I often find that when you’re talking about 1 or even 2 stitches, it seems to resolve itself once you really get into it and I end up with the right nuber, even though my swatch was different, maybe my swatching technique leaves something to be desired, i am fairly gung ho!!:teehee:
the chart is a 7-stitch repeat. For the small size given, casting on 200 less 7 each side for the button band leaves you with 186 for the 7-stitch repeat. You can repeat the pattern 26 times but that leaves you with 4 extra stitches. If you look at the pattern, it has 4stitces for a lacy effect w/yo’s and 3 stitchs in stockinette. So it makes sense to me that you’d repeat the first 4 lacy stitches part at the end of the row. that way you’ll have the lacy part next to each button band.
I can’t tell you how many stitches you need to elimiate to get to your size, but it’ll be easiest if it’s a multiple of 7. Hope this is somewhat helpful.
