Need help deciphering pattern!

This is a real simple pattern, but it seems there is always something that I don’t quite get!!

Next 6 rows: Inc 1 st in first st. Knit to end of row. 34 (42-50) sts.

Not sure what “Inc 1 st in first st.” refers to. I know it’s an increase of sorts, but what exactly?

Cuff: Cast off 4 (6-7) sts beg next 2 rows. 20 (24-30) sts.
Knit 8 rows. Cast off.

I think I get this, but not 100% sure. Am I supposed to cast off 4, then knit to the end of the row. cast off 4 then knit to the end of the row, and then knit another 8 rows?
Here is the pattern

(you have to be a member of the Bernat site to see it)

thanks!!!

I’m pretty sure you can just use any increase that floats your boat, but maybe somebody else has another opinion.

Basically you cast off 4 stitches, knit the rest of the row, and cast off the first 4 stitches at the beginning of the next row, at which point you should have 20 sts and knit for eight more rows. I remember the first time I read that in a pattern-I can’t tell you how long it took me to figure it out!

Since it’s asking you to increase 1 st ‘in’ the first stitch, you’re good doing a kfb increase.
