Need help creating "bumps"

I am making a hat for my daughter and need help with creating “bumps”. This is what the pattern says:

–>> Follow the above pattern but where you knit the “seed” color, you will K1P1 in the same stitch and pass the K stitch over the P stitch.

I know what K1 and P1 means… but am I to do that to only one stitch? Or do I knit 1, then purl 1 and THEN pass the K over the P? Won’t that take a way a stitch and in doing so “decrease”? I’m really confused and would appreciate any and all help.

Thanks!!!

Actually you knit and purl in the same stitch: knit the stitch, but don’t remove it from the left needle like you normally would…then purl the stitch and move it off of the left needle like normal. Then do the slipping. So you are actually increasing a stitch and then decreasing in the same stitch.

There is a video that might be helpful…it is NOT K1P1 in the same stitch (it’s for K front & back) but it shows how to work more than one stitch in the same place, if that makes any sense.
