Need help converting pattern for knitting in the round

This Coset T has button holes. I want to elimiante those and knitt it in the round. I need to cast on 219 stitches, but the lace pattern is 10 stitches long (I think) and the edges for the buttons are 4 stitches on either end, 8 total. How many more stitches do I need to add to continue the lace pattern in the round all the way through?

Corset tank top:
With a single strand of yarn and needles to obtain gauge, cast on 199 (219, 239, 259, 289, 309) sts. Knit 1 row.

Neckline lace motif:
Either working off of chart or following written instructions, work lace pattern as follows:

Row 1: K4, place marker (pm), (k1, YO, k3, VDD, k3, YO) rep 19 (21, 23, 25, 28, 30) times, k1, pm, k4 - 199 (219, 239, 259, 289, 309) sts. Row 2: Knit all sts, slipping markers.
Rep rows 1 & 2 of charted lace pat twice more - 6 rows total.

Row 3: K4, slip marker (sm), (k1, YO, k3, VDD, k3, YO) rep 19 (21, 23, 25, 28, 30) times, k1, sm, k4. Row 4: K4, sm, purl to next marker, sm, k4
Rep rows 3 & 4 of charted lace pat until piece meas 3 (3-1/4, 3-1/2, 3-3/4, 3-3/4, 4)" / (8.3, 9, 9.6, 9.6, 10.3) cm from cast-on row, end with a WS row.

The lace pattern is listed as having a repeat of 10 plus 1.

If you eliminate the 8 for the button band, that gives you 211. That will give you the required repeats–210, which is a multiple of 10, plus 1.

ok, that makes sense, but shouldn’t I change those stitches to lace?

It won’t be to small if I leave them out?

It shouldn’t be too small as the button bands overlap each other, leaving them off should mean that the sweater just meets nicely in the middle, (say for like a sweater that has tie cords instead of buttons).

The only alternative if you think omitting those 4 stitches of overlap would be to cast on 221 stitches. Once you’re sure of your gauge, you should be able to tell if that would work out better.

If the pattern repeat is 10, and I need to cast on 211, then there is an extra stitch in there. Why is it there? Should I keep it if I am changing this pattern to knit in the round?

The pattern repeat is 10 [color=blue]+ 1[/color]. That means that in order to keep that particular stitch pattern working, you’d cast on any multiple of 10, plus 1 more.
