Need Help Badly

I am trying to increase the length of the sleeves on EZ’s Baby Surprise Jacket. I haven’t been knitting all that long, but I got the picking up stitches part, but I’m having trouble with knitting the stitches that I picked up. When I knit the stitches, it looks like stockinette stitch instead of garter. I tried purling the stitches, but that doesn’t look right either.

Can someone please help me out? I know there is probably a simple explanation, but I just can’t figure out what to do.:??

I know exactly what you mean. If you haven’t noticed garter stitch looks different on both sides of the needle. You are always knitting on the side that looks like purls so what you need to do is pick up and knit the stitches from the side that looks like purls. If you’ve already seamed the shoulders and upper arms then you can knit in the round from the inside of the circle or I think you can pick up and purl from the outside then knit the next row, etc.

Here’s a picture I took of what the stitches need to look like if you are picking up and knitting. I made sure that I had that side on the outside of the sweater when I did mine.

ETA: I see you said purling didn’t look right. Then I’d probably work the inside of the circle if you have it already seamed. Next time you’ll know.

Thank you so much, Jan. I thought it was just me and I was loosing my mind (which wouldn’t be too far of a stretch):roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard:

I’m going to try that right now on my practice swatch ( didn’t want to mess up my finished sweater).

Thanks again!!!

I’ve made about 4 or 5 of them now so… fun aren’t they?!

This is my 5th one also. They are totally addictive. I don’t want to make anything else…lol.

I’ve never knit in the round, but I’m gonna give it a shot and see if I can make this work right. I know it won’t be as pretty as yours, but maybe one day I’ll get there.

Oh you can do it and I’m sure it’ll look great!
