Need help adjusting dress pattern for a toddler

Hi…I have been knitting a little over a year and am now able to accomplish reading and knitting patterns for int/adv. and now I’m trekking into new territory with adjusting patterns. I decided to go to art school to avoid math but know that now it is impossible to avoid in the knitting world.

I have decided to knit this cute pattern for my niece for her birthday in June:

The largest size on the pattern is 22" for the chest but my niece’s chest size is 24.5". I’m knitting with Paton’s Grace which is 24 st=4 in with US size 6 needles. http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displayProductPage?productNum=nw0168

Is there anyone that can help me with the adjustment of the pattern or some math equation I can give my engineer hubby to figure out?

I have knitpicks interchangeable needles so sticking with the same needle size is not important.

Thanks so much for your great help all of you experts!!!

They’re at 5 spi and you’re at 6 spi. You need it to be about 10% larger than the largest size and your gauge is smaller so you need more sts for that and more sts for your 10%. So CO 70 sts is the pattern…10% of 70 would be 7 for a total of 77. Then factor your gauge…you need to add one stitch for every inch (77/5= 15.4 inches) so 77+15.5=92.5. CO 92. Continue in this manner for the rest of the pattern. If you’re really not into it, show your husband the thinking here and I’m sure he can figure the rest out for you.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!! I ready hubby your response and he understands and is going to help me! THANKS.
