Need free pattern for children's legwarmers

I have an 8 year old niece (small and wiry) who is a avid gymnast in an underheated gymnasium space. I would like to make her a simple pair of striped legwarmers. Can anyone suggest either a pattern or a basic rule of thumb for making them the right circumference? I just started knitting but I know how to do ribbing and I can knit on circular needles or straight (2 knitting needles). Thanks.

Also I am unable to access children’s patterns on knittinghelp.com (free patterns). The selection doesnt seem to have a clickable link. Maybe Amy or someone who knows how to get there can paste a link accessing that part of her site. Thanks.

Just browsing, I see where Lion Brand yarn has a pattern for legwarmers for kids. It shows size 4, 6, and 8, but you might be able to figure out how to adapt the pattern if you need to make a larger size. Also, bevscountrycottage.com has some patterns…these are for women, but you might be able to downsize them as well.

Hope this helps a little.

Bernat has a free pattern that I used for an 8 year old. The pattern called for knitting them flat, but I knitted them in the round. You can check out the ones I made here, if you want. They are the pink ones with the stripes.
