Need advice to fix cast on edge of sock

I’ve just started the “Coquette” pattern from “2 At A Time Socks”. I’m a bit aggravated, because I’ve gotten everything going and done one repeat, and just discovered that something was messed up on the cast-on edge. The pattern starts by casting on twice the number of stitches needed for the sock, and then doing K2tog 3 times; P2tog 3 times all the way around to make a ruffled edge.

Any suggestions on how I could salvage this?

Steve, I have never attemped such a thing, (maybe someone will come to your rescue) but it looks like it could be one of those times where you may have to just bite the bullet and start over.

It looks like a re-do is in order…

you might want to work 1 round (after the cast on) before you work the ruffle (k2/p2tog’s) round.
and you can work the whole round K2tog–(it sounds like you are going to switch to K2/P2 ribbing.)

the modifications will be so slight as not to be seen (unless of course you or sock recipiant has a food fetish… in which case you might want to struggle away!)

many ruffles are made by casting on 2 (or 4!) times the desired number and decreasing (and decreasing again) to make a “lettuce edge” ruffle. (cast on 40, and try a swatch (knit straights… (work the first 20 K2/P2tog the second 20 all K2tog…
followed by ribbing (which ever ribbing the sock calls for) and see if you like/dislike the change to all K2tog’s!

Thanks! Looks like I’m frogging tonight…
