Need advice please

Hi Everyone.

I need some advice please. I just finished First Half of pattern. Before I start the second half. I wish to understand the second half instructions.

Does Row 3, simple means do Row 1 over again?

And where it said “ rep rows 2 and 3 until second half measure same as first half” does it means do Row 2 and 1 of the first half? Thanks

Yes, Row 3 is a repeat of Row 1 of the first half.
For the repeat of Rows 2 and 3, repeat Row 2 of the first half and then Row 1 of the first half.
Very clever pattern.

Thanks so much. Yes it is

I would have thought they could have written out those rows, rather than this somewhat confusing repeat. It might have used one more line of text, but would have been much clearer!

That’s as though someone wanted to be purposely ambiguous… but for what purpose?

Good question, no good answer here. I don’t remember what the pattern was but I gave up on it. It was riddled with ‘work row x’ and ‘work row x,y,z’ referring back to previous rows. I was totally, completely lost, unable to keep track of where and what I was supposed to do. I came across a video for the exact pattern. In five minutes or less I could do it. The video made sense of the obfuscation. Another reason I love charts like the test of a cable pattern I’m currently working on.

That’s what confusing

You might write it out like this:
First half row 1 = row 1
row 2 = row 2
end on a row 1

Second half row 1 = row 1
row 2 = row 2
row 3 = row 1
alternate rows 2 and 3 = alternate rows 2 and 1

Confused with the last this part “alternate rows 2 and 3 = alternate rows 2 and 1”

The pattern for the second half ends with repeat rows 2 and 3. That’s the equivalent of repeating rows 2 and 1 of the original first half directions.
This way makes sense to me but you may want to rewrite the directions in a way that makes it easier for you to understand and knit.
I agree with the above posters that it’s a pattern that sorely needs revising. Any editing would be more helpful than the current sequence of rows.

The only reason i can see for making a point of first half and second half is that at the half way point row 1 is repeated.
The first half ends with row 1
The second half begins with row 1

First half
Row 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2… to length, end with row 1
Then
Second half
Row 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2… to length. Bind off

The right and wrong side switch but as it is garter stitch both sides look the same, the point of the second half is the inc and dec position swaps edges (you don’t move them, the pattern does it for you).

One more try! Hopefully, one of our versions will make sense to you!

First Half:
Cast on 48 sts
Row 1 = Sl 1, kfb, k to last 2 sts, k2tog
Row 2 = Sl 1, k to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows until piece measures 36 in. (91.5 cm) along diagonal edge, ending with Row 1.

Second Half:
Row 1 = Sl 1, kfb, k to last 2 sts, k2tog
Row 2 = Sl 1, k to end of row.
Rep these 2 rows until Second Half measures same as First Half.
Bind off.

OR:
Second Half
Repeat First Half until Second Half measures same as First Half.
Bind off.
