Need advice interpreting a pattern

I’ve been looking out for small objects that I could finish quickly, just for practice. (Expanding my stitch repertoire is a bonus.) So I tried this bookmark last night.

I think I got almost everything down after some reading & video watching (love those KH videos!!). But I’m confused by the fourth row of the pattern. It looks like you end up with too many stitches. Unless you just leave out the k5? and I’m not 100% sure what the “end” bit means either. Thanks for any advice.

The pattern is written so you can have as many repeats as you want. If you have several repeats between the **'s, you’ll knit 5 on all the repeats except for the last one, where you’d end with 3.

If you only cast on 11, end with k3, B1 rather than k5.
