Need advice about a type of yarn

Hi. I’m new to the site. I refer to it whenever I have questions and always seem to find an answer.
You guys are such a great help.

I bought some yarn that I’m finding extremely difficult to work with. It’s Sensations Rainbow Bounce yarn. I thought when I bought it it would be a fun yarn to use. Turns out it’s almost like a piece of thread with crinkly little things on it. Sorry but it’s hard to describe.

I’ve tried knitting with different size needles, and crocheting is next to impossible using it.

Does anybody know this yarn; and is there anything I can do with it short of throwing it out.

Thanks.

I think that’s the Rainbow ‘Boucle’, not ‘bounce’ yarn. You can use a larger needle or hook, it makes a good shawl or it can also do well as a sweater. Keep a loose grip on it, that may help too.

Thank you. ‘Boucle’…that’s it. Where did I get ‘bounce’ from.

I was trying to make a hooded scarf that called for size 8 needles. The pattern stated casting on 62 stitches which with normal yarn would be 10 inches. If I go to a size 10 should I use less stitches?

Thanks

You can also carry it along with another yarn to make it easier to knit.

Yes, maybe a few less; see how many sts/inch you get with the 10s, it may only make an inch difference and you don’t need to change the stitch number.

Thanks. I did switch to a larger needle and it’s a little easier. I bought two huge skeins of this stuff in different colors and I’ll make something after this project using the two together.

All I know is I’ll never buy it again. I’m sure it’ll make for a pretty and soft finished project, but sheesh! :eyes:

Thanks.

Another great idea for it: using a size US15 needle, cast on 10 stitches and work garter stitch back and forth for a scarf. It will create a very lacy appearance.

When I was first learning to knit, I bought a ton of boucle yarn, too. i found it tough to work with at first but it does get easier to use as you become more experienced. It is still not my favorite.

Yeah boucle is not easy yarn to work with. A larger needle does help - still it makes you appreciate working with simple yarn again. The results are usually nice if you can make yourself get through the project. Good luck!
