Another question about the yarn. Should I use a man made yarn (acrylic, polyester, nylon, etc) or a natural yarn (wool, alpaca, cotton, etc)? The reason I ask is because I’ve never done a pattern like this and there may be some ripping out somewhere (hopefully not!), and I don’t want to damage the natural fibers. I’m really hoping on doing it out of alpaca or an alpaca blend, it’s my favorite yarn.
If you’re going to use an animal fiber see if you can find out first if she can wear it. It would be awful to find out she had sensitive skin or was allergic.
Regardless…use a lifeline! It’ll save you a ton of trouble when you do need to frog back.
The pattern calls for a fingering weight but oddly doesn’t suggest a yarn.
If your friend is able and willing to hand wash as needed then by all means go for the alpaca.
This is one of my favorite fingering weight yarns. It’s not an alpaca blend but is still soft and skooshy and even better is a machine washable wool:

and as you like alpaca/ alpaca blends…
This is a sale yarn and the only color still available at KnitPicks in a fingering wt alpaca/ merino blend. I have this yarn in another colorway and it is delightful.

and this is their new alpaca/silk blend that I’ve yet to try, but am sure is great:

KnitPicks has yet to let me down on a new yarn in 3 years or ordering from them. I
KnitPicks!
Very useful! Thank you!
I completely forgot, she has cerises. I’ll definitely ask her if she’s allergic. Or just play it safe.
If you could afford it or find it on sale, you might consider silk. I’ve not heard of people not being able to use silk. As stated in another post, be sure she is up for hand washing and/or drying flat or blocking if you get something that doesn’t go from washer to dryer.
Hi Tabitha - I saw some yarn at Michael’s a couple of days ago. I checked on ravelry for shawls made out of it, and here is one:
Haruni Shawl with Bamboo Thread, the raveler doubled her yarn in this project.
I didn’t see that this morning. Was it with the crocheting thread?
I found some BEAUTIFUL acrylic yarn at Michael’s today that I fell in love with. It looks almost exactly like hand spun wool. The texture and size was perfect! I would have gotten it if it weren’t for the colors. I wasn’t a big fan of them for this project. They’d be beautiful for something else, but I wasn’t sure about this one. Now I wished I’d have gotten it.
Instead I bough some soft ‘I Love This Cotton!’ yarn from Hobby Lobby. It pretty, but it’s a bit of a let down after passing up the other. I just noticed that one of the skins was pieced together, who knows how many more knots are in them. Uhg! It’s not going to work. I’ll try to find a link to the acrylic yarn I found at Michael’s.
Edit: I think I found it. The pictures don’t do it justice at all! ![]()
I found the perfect yarn! It’s the same as what I posted above only in a beautiful two tone brown.:woot:

Here’s a great crochet tutorial for an infinity scarf. It looks just as good on you as in the video. And I was surprised that in spite of the holes, this is very warm. It would look especially elegant in some type of silk yarn. Also, you can’t go wrong with a phone sleeve to protect your smart phone. My phone screen has no scratches on it and looks just as good as the day I bought it. It helps protect your phone against accidentally dropping it.
