So I’ve moved onto neck shaping on granddaughter jumper dress. I think I did this correctly. I did put in my lifeline. Directions: RS row. k 9 and turn, leaving remaining stitches on needle. WS bind off 2 stitches, purl to end. Bind off 7 stitches for right shoulder. Next row RS: slip center 27 stitches to holder. Rejoin yarn to last 9 stitches bind off 2, k to end. Next row: p7. Bind off 7 stitches for left shoulder.
I think I did this correctly. After bind off 2 then p to end (first time) I think it should have said turn to RS and bind off 7 stitches for right shoulder. Anyway that how I did it. Then it never tells you to … then cut yarn so it can be rejoined for left shoulder. And obviously same issue on left shoulder. The weird thing is I’ve finished the last bind off for rt shoulder so it kind of happens in middle of shoulder… there’s the 2 bound off stitches and meets the now 7 more bound off stitches. Did I do this correctly
Yes, sounds like you’ve worked this just fine. As long as the pattern wanted you to p7 then bind off those 7 for the second shoulder, then that’s exactly what the instructions want.
I hope we get to see this dress which sounds adorable. I love knitting for little girls.
Well it’s really bind off 9 for each shoulder. It starts with 2 stitches k or p remainder 7 then bind those off. I guess I was a little taken aback that the bind off weren’t done all 9 at once. So the last bind off occurs in the middle (almost) of these 9 stitches. I’m sure there must be reason, I just don’t know it. But the stitches all add up —
9 for each shoulder and 27 on holder for neck. Later after seaming shoulders the armhole and neck are trimmed with garter stitch. Just wanted to make sure before I cut yarn.
You could probably bind off 9 with no noticeable difference. I have seen shoulder bind off where the yarn ends up in the middle of the shoulder however. Perhaps a designer feature?
Don’t really know. I will just follow the pattern. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t reading too much into it. But by all means as soon as finished will post picture. Already started on front.
