Neck Shaping in moss st. pat

Hi, I got the pattern for neck shaping yesterday. Now when I decrease, if it’s a row starting with a knit, is the next stitch a knit? I’m using the moss st. pat. so the rows alternate the starting stitch : k1, *p1, k1 repeat from *, Next row p1, *k1, p1 repeat from *. Every time I try that, it turns the pattern into a ribbing. What am I doing wrong now?

You have to keep an eye on the work that’s on the needles.

Knit the purl stitches that are facing you and purl the knits to maintain the seed stitch. If you eliminate the first k in the row, you’ll have to start the next row with a p.

Do the stitches the opposite of what they appear on whatever row you’re on - knit what look like purls and purl what lookes like knits.

I apologize for not getting back to you. I have been waiting to get updated via email and they never came through. I’ll check my settings. Thank you so much for the help. I’m trying to learn this stuff:hug:

Ok, I got it now. I forgot the email notification. :roflhard:

The problem is they’re not in alternating rows: the pattern is a 4 row pattern like this:
They’re calling that the moss st. pat.

Okay, there’s row 1 which sets up the knits and purls, so on row 2, knit what look like knits and purl the ones that look like purls. On row 3, reverse that and knit the purls, purl the knits, row 4 is is knit the knits and purl the purls.

ok, I’ll try that. Thank you so much!
