Hello -
I am a rather new knitter and new to this forum. I love this site and figure someone here could help me. I’m working on the SnB Skully sweater. I’m working on the neck shaping and completely confused.
Here’s the pattern:
K29 sts. Join 2nd skein; BO center 9 sts; k to end of row. Both shoulder sections are worked at the same time with separate skeins.
I’ve got this down.
Here’s where I’m stuck:
BO 2 sts at neck edge at beg of every other row until 21 sts rem on each shoulder.
What?!?! I’ve been staring at this instruction since Sunday and can’t figure it out.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Each time you begin to work the neck edge (RS for left shoulder, WS for right) BO 2 sts. Should go something like this… work RS right shoulder), drop yarn, then BO 2 on left shoulder. Turn, work WS of left shoulder, drop yarn, BO 2 on right shoulder. Repeat until you have the 21 sts on each shoulder.
You’re creating the ‘U’ shape of the neckline. If you want to create a slope instead of stepped BOs, don’t work the last st on the side you don’t do the BO on. Then, when working the first BO, slip the unworked st and the next one to the right ndl, slip the unworked over the second one, and then do one add’l BO. This equals 2 BOs but by slipping the first it’ll create the slope and elim the step.
HTH,
cam

Thank you - this finally makes sense!
