Neck Bind Off?

Finally I have reached the (first) part of the neck on my sweater! :woohoo: After 5 short rows the instructions say “bind off 43 sts for back neck. Place remaining 25 sts for each shoulder on separate holders”. Before I continue I want to make sure I’m reading this right. Is that place 25 on each side on a holder and then bind off the middle 43 sts, or bind off the first 43 sts and separate the last 50 onto two holders?

Place 25sts on each side on holders and bind off the center 43sts. You can work the first shoulder (it would be work 25sts, then bind off 43sts) and work the remaining 25sts. Then go back and place the shoulder sts on holders.
Congrats on getting to almost the end of the back!

Wonderful, thank you! I bound off the 43 middle sts so I now have 25 on one side and 24 on another (I’ll fix that later). My question is what do I do with the last stitch? Usually when I bind off at the end of a row I break the yarn and use it to tie a small hole in the last loop (because when I bind off with K2, pass first stitch over it leaves one stitch at the end that’s just a loop). Can I still do this with the middle of the row bind off? Or will it not hold the way it would at the end of the row? I need to break off the yarn somehow so I can continue on the front side of the sweater.

The last stitch at the end of the bind off is the missing stitch #25 from one of the shoulders. Add it to the holder with 24sts and leaving about a 6inch tail, cut the yarn end.
