Nature in Nature Afghan by Lion Brand

Hi
I want to try out this very beautiful afghan. The pattern looks interesting and challenging. My question is , what is the meaning K 1 selvage st.
I know this question has been post before but I seems to be still confused. Please help
Thanks and regards

A selvage stitch is an edge stitch. For this pattern the stitch is accounted for in the cast on of 137sts. The pattern says to maintain these 2 edge sts in stockinette (knit on the front row, purl on the back).

Maintain these 2 edge sts i stockinette (knit on the front row, purl on the back) , is that mean
Row1 (RS) : K1, 35 sts of pattern I, 15 St sts, 35 sts of pattern II, 15 St sts, 35 sts of pattern I, K1.
Row2 (WS) : P1, continue working pattern I, 15 St st, continue pattern II, 15 St st, countinue pattern I, P1.
Meaning also the edge will have a knot . Am I right?? Please advice

Yes, that’s the way you would work the selvage stitches according to the pattern. If you’d prefer to knit the selvage every row, you could do that too.

Thank you. I understand now
