N00b needs advice on loose edges

Hi all!

I am verrrry new to knitting and I’d like to think I’m getting the hang of it, for example I’m not splitting the yarn as much and that in itself is a victory for me.

My tension is getting much better … EXCEPT for on the edges. I finish a really nice and even row, not too tight (knitting tight is an issue with me) but then I get to the last stitch and there’s this humongous, loose, ugly loop there, I have no idea what I’m doing to cause my first/last stitches to sag and droop, so I’m going crazy and must ask for: HELP! :wall:

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks tons in advance

Check out this post on the Chain selvage. You slip the first stitch of each row and it creates a nice edging.

Knitqueen posted it in another thread.

What you can do to minimize large end stitches is to knit the first 3-4 stitches on each row tighter. Then when you come back to those stitches (which are now at the end of the row) they’ll take up some of the slack that always occurs as you knit a row.
