Mystery Yarns

Please help me identify what I got please? has anyone seen this kind of yarn before?

It has absoultely no labeling anywhere to be found, I was saying out loud that I have no idea how they can sell stuff without labels!!? what’s the content of the yarn? how many yards? what’s the weight? no manufacturer name… NOTHING

The sales lady over heard me hehee, came over and said they are 1/2 lb in each skein but can’t tell me anything else.

The mutli color one feels like acrylic in bulky weight. All the rest I can’t really tell, feels soft and fluffy in lace weight.

Any clues? Any pattern recommendations on what to knit with them? Thanks!

The only advice I can offer is the burn test. Burn a small piece and if it melts, it’s acrylic.

How can you buy something without a label? It must have been a great price. I suppose you could do the burn test like Ingrid suggested and reball it and run it through a counter to see what your yardage is. Maybe work up a small sampling of each one to see how it will knit up will give you an idea of what to knit with it.

I think the shop’s down fall with these yarns was because they are NOT labeled :rofling: , so no one bought them over the months that I have seen them there! lol I got them at 50% off :happydance:

Thanks ladies for the advise, I’ll try the burn test

And can’t you guesstimate yardage by weight? You’d need one of those super accurate digital scales, like from chemistry class, but measure say a quarter or half an ounce or so, then see how long it is, and then you can roughly calculate how much is in the cone.

Like if a quarter an ounce is 4 yards (just throwing out numbers here), and you have half pound cones, you’d have 128 yards per cone.

Also you can try the wraps per inch too for a ballparkish figure as to weight and length…
