Mysterious zig zag pattern - help recognize the technique

Hi there fellow knitters,

I’ve encountered this pattern on some designer’s sweaters recently yet I cannot figure out how to knit one. Below are pictures of few examples. I have tried the herringbone pattern, many variations of cable and none of these seems to be exactly like this one. Do you have any idea what it might be and is it even possible for a hand knit?

As the stitches seem to be going sideways in the second and third garment pictures, I wonder whether it could be two rows of lateral braid.

Are these hand or machine knits? I’m not sure whether you can do a lateral braid on a knitting machine, but if not it could be added by hand.

Those examples are machine knit, I haven’t encountered it on hand knits

Hmm, interesting. I do know that commercial machine knits, especially designer ones, sometimes have hand-made elements added.

Also, I meant Latvian braid, not lateral braid. Sorry.

I am sure you will get some other thoughts from more experienced folks here.

Now that I look again, perhaps Latvian braid is not the answer and it may be a machine-knitting technique. Hmm.

This blog post has some nice photos of multiple rows of Latvian braids if you scroll down:

Oh, just remembered this decorative seaming technique:

Could it be rickrack rib?
