My scarf doesn't look right...help please!

i’m a semi-beginner and i’m making a scarf that i’m having issues with.

i’m using wool and doing blocks of the regular knitting stitch and then blocks with columns of the stockinette stitch. on the blocks with the stockinette stitch, i did a border (2 columns wide) of knitting on the left and right sides to keep it from curling.
however, these blocks are bowing in towards the center…so it has the shape of an hour glass.

anyone know why this is happening or what i can do to keep if from happening?

It’s probably happening because two stitches on the side isn’t enough to totally discourage the stockinette from curling in. If you did a five stitch garter border on the entire scarf, then the entire edge would be even. If you don’t want to do extra garter, seed stitch would work, too, for a border.

but its not curling at all…will that still fix the problem?

The nature of st st that causes curling is similar to what you’re experiencing, plus I think garter lays flatter.

BUT, I just reread your original post, and since you’re using wool, you’ll be able to wet and pin the scarf when you’re done to block it and that should even it out.

I knit a garter stitch scarf then added a border in fun fur. I pulled out new stitches from the Garter Stitch scarf edge and then knit the fun fur onto those “pulled” new stitches. (not sure how to say this in correct 'knit-ese". I only put the fun fur on one side and one end so far. And I used a larger needle to bind off the final stitches (second row of fun fur). That side with the finished two rows of fun fur have shortened the whole scarf by curving inward. Instead of the scarf reaching below my pants pockets while standing, it now only reaches my belt/waist line. I am afraid to add the fun fur to the second side and end for fear of having the whole thing curve in on itself! HELP PLEASE. Lots of work here and now what? :crying: :thinking: Thanks for any help available to salvage this scarf.
