Okay so I’m trying to knit my first sweater. I’m at a point where I have 84sts on the needle. The next directions say to work in a stocking stitch for 27 rows dec 1 st at each end of 3rd and every following 6th row. At the end I should have 74 sts. Now the way I though this would be is that I would decrease at the end of rows 3,9,15,21, and 27. However this would only decrease 5 sts not 10. Am I reading this wrong?
Nevermind! I figured it out myself! I didn’t catch that it said at EACH end so its dec 2sts, not 1. I’m good now!
Hi and welcome to KH. I think you missed one of those little important details that experience will teach you to look for. This: dec 1 st at each end means you’ll be decreasing two sts on each of those 5 rows for a total of 10. Those pesky little phrases are rampant. Another to watch for is “at the same time.”
Wonderful! Those things do get easier to pick up on.
