My First Irish Hiking Scarf

Hi! :waving:

Wonderful work! Love your color choice! Also love the dog! A Shih Tzu, right? How adorable!

YUP! I work with a Shih Tzu/ Lhasa Rescueand a Lhasa Rescue amongst other.

Lu–the scarf looks great!! Your model is adorable!!! :inlove:

Thanks! BTW, tried to see your scarf (link on your sig) but the link was broken. It needs to be updated since the forum changeover. Please tell us when you’ve done that so we can see it. What drove you back to knitting?

Thanks for sharing the photos Arielluria!!!

We have had Shih Tzus for 20 years! We had a female as a puppy…purchased from a grocery store bulletin board ad…then 2 years later, we rescued a 3 yr old male…and we had Emily and Bear for 15 years. Bear died of squamous cell cancer in 2003…Emily died of internal cancer in 2005.

Then “Katie” came into our lives! She is like having Emily and Bear rolled into one bundle of fur! Many characteristics of both!

Katie’s best friend is our old St. Bernard, who was her babysitter when she was a puppy. We let him in the kitchen with her right from day one, and she crawled up on his side to snuggle. Of course, at night, she slept in her little crate in our room.

Her next best friend is her “sister”…a Treeing Walker Coonhound, purchased as a 6 wk old. Katie was “Dani’s” babysitter, being the same size at the time of the homecoming!

Then came “Blue”, our “rescued” Treeing Walker Coonhound.
He was 6 months old at the time of the rescue, had never been abused, and he just fits himself right into the family!

Here is the whole “crew”…“Blue” on the wicker settee, Dani standing, Harley sleeping, and Katie! All enjoyed the winter sun!

Here is a Picasa collage…showing Dani as a 6 wk old puppy, later as an adolescent hound… “Uncle” Harley, the old St. Bernard, and Katie, the resident Shih Tzu!

Here is my little Shih Tzu, Katie, enjoying morning sun and the tall grasses of our mountain summer property!

omagosh!!! Your troop is adorable! I’d take Katie in a second…well ANY of them! I love and hug strange dogs all the time…LOL! (Welcome to my world!)
:flirt:
BUT I am partial to the little furballs!
Loooooooooooved the pictures! Thanks for sharing.
:muah::hug:
Kiss each one on the nose for me!

Thanks Arielluria! You know…Katie, Emily, Bear…my 3 little Shih Tzu’s really helped me survive empty nest syndrome. We had a bustling house filled with 5 children, all their friends, dogs, cats, gerbils, guinea pigs, cockatiels, etc…but eventually, all 5 kids went off into the world…all now married with their own families…and even though they all live locally…I find myself needing something to hug and kiss late at night. A Shih Tzu is just the right thing! Katie is always at my feet, or on the couch next to me…and always ready with a cuddle and a kiss!

I was devastated to lose Bear and then two years later, Emily. I was shocked at myself! My DH took me within the week to get Katie. It is amazing…although a new puppy doesn’t take the place of the deceased dog…a new puppy does fill your room with LOVE…and you just DO love them. It does temper the sting of grief.

We are keeping our Shih Tzu count to one…the grooming is quite a task…and I bought all the tools to groom Katie properly. Can’t bear to turn her over to the groomer for the better part of a day. A visit to the vet for spaying was unavoidable. All our females are spayed. The males can’t jump the 6’ fence…so roaming is not an issue.

I agree, Shih Tzus are a wonderful substitute for children. I have none, but if I did, they would still be my babies no matter what!

Like you I can’t trust a groomer with my babies, so I just keep them on a schedule so I don’t have to do more than 1 or 2 in one day. There’s a very useful video you can buy on Amazon: Grooming Your Dog Basic Haircuts

Thanks for the link! Much appreciated!

Here’s my 2nd IHS…this time modelled by Peanut. What a ham!
:flirt:

I noticed this little doggy with the scarf on your name thingie when you first started using it. He is so cute. Really makes me smile. Your scarf is beautiful. You are lucky to have such a cooperative model.

Thanks. They are 2 different dogs though. The one in my first IHS is Cricket and this 2nd one is Peanut.

Hi Arielluria! :waving: You sure do know how to pick the right yarns! This yarn (the green) is lusterous in appearance…and of course, the color is spot-on!

Love your model! :teehee: Thanks for sharing the photos with us!

:muah:Thanks, both the first and 2nd were Caron Simply Soft. I love the shiny quality of it myself.

Another thing I noticed about your yarn: it seems to have a nice drape! The finished scarf looks like it would be easy to wrap around the neck in different configurations! It doesn’t appear to be stiff.

I am definitely going to make a trip to Joann’s and snag a couple skeins of this yarn. I think it would make really nice gifts… IHS with Caron Simply Soft. Beautiful, but not too spendy. The main expenditure is TIME. And, isn’t the IHS an easy pattern to memorize? I just love it.

You can get that yarn at Walmart too ;). And yes, I love that I don’t have to keep looking at a pattern. I started this one in public and by the time I got to my 2nd cable repeat a lady next to me said “well aren’t you great! You can cable without looking at a pattern”. LOL!

The scarf looks beautiful :yay: I  the color and your model is so cute. You did a great job.

:muah:
Nadja :knitting:

Very pretty and I love all the cute puppy pictures :happydance:

Adorable! And the scarf is beautiful, too!

I did that pattern for the first time last winter–it’s a fun one! I love the fringe on the ends!

gorgeous colour, it looks very soft and snuggly.
