As i was leaving for work this morning, i saw that my garage door was open and that my cat was gone!!! :waah: :waah: I’ve had her for six years!! she helped me get over the death of my first cat. I’ve had such a bad week at work and now she’s gone. I feel like I’m falling apart. what’s so strange is i think someone broke into my house. because the my garage Door was closed when I went to bed and then it was opened this morning. I didn’t even check to see if anything was missing. I just want Elena back. I’m trying to stay positive but she has never been gone this long. I’m just worried that some dog hurt her or she was run over. She has her tags so I hope if someone has her they will call.
Bless your heart. I hope kitty finds her way home. And I hope it was just a malfunctioning door and not a burglary for you. Try to keep postive thoughts. I’ll be saying a few "Here kitty, kitty, kitty"s for ya’
I lost my cat Mulder for about a day 3 years ago when he got startled by my stepdad leaving and bolted. We had no idea where he was and I was literally hysterical. My DH had to pick me up from the floor of the humane society where we went looking and carry me to the car. When we found him he was hiding in the bushes of a neighbors house, too scared to come when we called.
If he’s scared he’s probably close by, they usually find a hiding spot to hunker down into and stay there until found. Mulder would not have come out on his own, he’s a 12 yr old 20 pound house cat never been outside. Check bushes, hidey holes, recycling bins in the alley, anywhere he could fit and hide. And good for you putting tags on him. You took the right steps in making sure that if this did happen it would be 100% more likely to get him home again.
Best wishes my dear, keep us updated. Kitty is in my
So sorry to hear that your beloved Elena is missing!!
Have you tried putting out food or tuna?
That’s how I found one of my cats when he jumped off the balcony. We set out dishes of his food in the backyard, and a plate of tuna. Sure enough, he came out of where he was hiding in a drainpipe to eat!
Hope she comes home very soon! Please keep us posted.

thank you for all your words of hope!! I need them. I’ve spent all day trying not to break down crying. :verysad: we put out food trying to lure her back home. so far no luck. We put up a bunch of flyers. Her tag has all her information so hopefully if someone finds her they will bring her back. i just keep hoping she will turn up on the front porch whining to come in.
oh my! My heart goes out to you. I can’t imagine how this must feel! I have 2 kitties and would be heartbroken without them. I will pray for her speedy and safe return to you; please keep us updated!
I know how you feel. Many years ago, my cat got out. We had a 1st floor apartment w/balcony. She’d gone on the balcony & mom didn’t realize she was outside. I made flyers, asked all the kids in the neighborhood, spent hours outside looking for her. The third night, I heard her meowing. She’d gotten back up on the balcony. I woke my mom up (it must have been around 3 a.m.) to tell her the cat was back (and no, she didn’t appreciate it). Kitty had a few ticks, but was otherwise ok, if a bit hungry.
I, too, lost one of my cats, well not really lost per se, he actually decided to pick up and leave. He would come back now and then for some food, but for a long while we didn’t see him. Then just recently, he’s started to show up again. And I’m pretty sure that your kitty will come home a lot sooner than mine did.
Like everyone is saying…cats very rarely stray far from home. I hope she meows at the door very soon!!!
Animals are so wonderful, and I know that she is part of your family. I am always so attached to my pets, and I’ve been there before so I know how you feel. I’ll say a prayer that she comes home safe and sound!!!
I’m sorry - and I know how frantic you are. If your kitty is an indoor cat, she’s probably mostly scared, so check places where she can hide near your house, put food out for her, spend time outside, play familiar TV/music so she can hear it.
When my kitties got out (they pushed out a screen, the little buggers), one came back quickly because I had trained her to come when I called (the best thing I’ve ever done is train my cats to come when they’re called). But the younger cat hadn’t caught onto that yet. Calling him didn’t get him to come back, putting food out didn’t get him to come back. But on the advice of some friends, I propped open the door and turned on the news, which I usually listened to. About 20 minutes later, he snuck back in through the door and hopped right up into my lap, relieved to no longer be out in the Big Noisy Outside. Thanks to Tom Brokaw. (I was also glad that no groundhogs or other country critters decided to take advantage of that open door.)
(To train your cat to come when called, use some sort of sing-song voice (or other sound) to call them whenever you feed them. I first did this as I was dumping food into their bowls right under their noses. Then call them with that same sound when you give them treats, and give them treats every so often so they don’t forget. It works.)
I hope you find her soon… like other have said she is prolly close to home…and is prolly somewhere watching you but is to afraid to come out right now…
So far no luck. I’ve spent a sleepless night worrying about her. and to top it off it RAINED!! now the poor baby is wet and scared. She is trained to come when she is called but if she is terrified I really dont know if she will come. I called animal control but no one turned her in. I really hope she turns up soon. i left food for her at both doors (which other cats keep eating) and put clothes out with our scents so she can recognize home. i even went out with my other cat. so far nothing.
