I’m so upset! My Max has been having eye issues for about a month now and I just chalked it up to him having something in his eye and put regular eye drops in, they didn’t help. So finally the last 2 weeks it got worse so I made an appt last Monday and they got me in and he had blood in his eye! Oh I feel so awful for him. He’s obviously in pain and they gave him some eye drops to help and they did and they wanted us to take him to an Eye Doctor for animals, we just got back and he said that it could be a tumor or it may not be, but basically the only way to avoid it spreading if it is cancer is to have it removed. I feel so horrible for waiting so long to get him in. I never noticed the blood before last Monday. I’m a horrible mother. :pout:
I’m more upset because this eye specialist can’t tell us if it is or not. They apparently can’t do a biopsy of it without removing it first. How can a specialist not be able to give us a more definitive answer?! I just spent $200.00 on this office visit and we don’t know anything more than we did at our regular vet!
I need some hugs. :verysad: Does anyone else have a cat with one eye that can make me feel better about this?

As far as your kitty is concerned, I am sure that he will be fine in the long run with one eye, he will learn to compensate for the missing eye. I have seen lots of pets with 1 or 2 missing legs and they end up acting like they have never known life with 4 legs! I would just make sure to follow the Dr.'s orders and give that kitty cat of yours lots and lots of spoilage!
I’m sorry about your kitty but they do seem to adjust well. I had a cat that lost a front leg including her shoulder and to see her get around you would never guess her leg was missing unless you were close enough to see that is was missing.
Good Luck with the process it can be heart breaking but with lots of love they will heal quickly.
I’d be upset too. I can handle anything about myself but if it’s my pet it’s another story.
I can also kind of understand the eye vet’s wishy/washy attitude. Just like human doctors they can’t make a diagnosis of cancer without biopsy and biopsying an eye is pretty near impossible without completely ruining it. But you know that, your just upset right now with everything and that’s more than understandable.
I think your kitty will be ok. I’m hoping it’s just a benign thing and that losing his eye will be the last of it. Both you and kitty are in my thoughts.
Same from me…have a three legged kitty that runs faster than any four legged one and she healed amazingly fast. She was covering up poops like nothing was different and climbs trees as well. I’m so sorry your kitty is losing an eye and worse that you don’t know if the removal will end the problems. Many hugs to you and your kitty.
I’m sorry to hear about your kitty Our furbabies are so special I don’t know how I would cope if mine were to get ill. I will be praying for you and your kitty.
My brothers kitty just went blind and she is only 2 years old and she had a seizure while at the vets my bro spent $200 like you and didn’t learn anything he already didn’t know. Poor kitty is walking into everything trying to get her barings and can’t find her litter box. mostly she just lays with my brother when he’s home and doesn’t move.
Oh, I so hope your kitty will be just fine. You are going through a terrible time but don’t blame yourself. As Stitchwitch stated she could handle anything to do with herself but difficult with a pet. Our last dog, who lived to be over 17, lost her sight and hearing (age related) but managed to get around pretty well. I watched her in the backyard after she went blind though. Anyway, here’s a big fat for you both.
Hugs for you. You’re not a bad mother and I’m sure kitty will be fine with one eye. I don’t know any one eyed cats, but I know lots of 3 legged and blind dogs that do wonderful.
You’re not a bad mommy, animals are tough b/c they are for the most part very stoic and do not let us know when they are hurting. My older dog is acting perfectly normal and then he started sneezing, his eye got all swollen and then started draining and now his nose is full of crusty stuff and he can’t breath through his nose. All within a couple of days. We’re heading to the vet in the morning.
My uncle had a cat that was totally blind and one that was deaf.
They both lived long happy lives. The key is that they were lucky enough to have had people who loved them. I think you’re cat will do just fine that area.
Thank you all so much for the hugs. It really does help to know that you are saying a prayer and thinking good thoughts for my little boy. He is the best cat ever. We got him when he was 6 months old and he had been hit by a car and broke a lot of bones on the left side of his face. His ear was torn too, it was so sad, but when we got him he was all better and you would think that an animal who was hit by a car would be quite skittish, but not our Max. He’s not afraid of anything. Not thunder, fireworks, not even big dump trucks speeding down the street (we live on a very busy street). He’s the most laid back cat ever. I hope he lives forever.
I called our vet and we’ll probably have him do it. Plus he’ll most likely be cheaper than the eye doctor. I sure wish these trees in the backyard had money hanging from them!! But our Max is worth every penny.
Anyone else with a good report?? Please keep lifting my spirits. I’m still scared for him and I can use all the positive stories you can give me. You all are the best!!
To you and Max! I know it is heartbreaking when we find out our pets are sicker than we thought. My neighbors cat had to have his eye removed last year and you really wouldn’t know it looking at him today. He adjusted remarkably well. This morning he was even trying to get the birds at my bird feeder. Just give him lots of love and he will do fine!!
He’ll be fine. He probably can’t see out of that side anyhow, so it won’t be anything new to him. You’re not a bad catmom. Cats hide illness–in the wild they have to or they’re prey–so we don’t always know when anything’s going on with them and quite often vets don’t either.
We have a cat who lost use of an eye to infection when she was tiny and wild. She’s fine (and six or seven years old.) We’ve had several others who had one eye or were blind. It doesn’t seem to bother them.
I am soooo sorry you are going through this!!! I hope all the best for your cat. I’m sure he will be ok with just one eye. he will still have his whiskers which give help with perception. Hugs!!!
i used to ride a pony as a child that had an eye removed. the only thing you needed to worry about was making sure he didnt crash into anything that side!! im sure as soon as your kitty cat gets used to not having his eye there he’ll be just fine with it.

This may be a little OT, but, the other night I was watching a special on Discovery Health, I believe it was, about a boy who had been diagnosed with cancer in his eyes when he was about 2 years old. The only way to keep the cancer from killing him was to remove his eyes. The boy is now 15 and he has adjusted wonderfully. While there are still some obstacles, he has learned to adjust to not having eyesight, and, is apparently the only known case of a person who can actually “see” through hearing. It’s amazing the way bodies compensate.
While it is hard to deal with, hopefully the removal of the eye will be the worst of it and your baby will live a long happy life. There will, of course, be an adjustment period, but in time, he will adjust and I’m sure be just fine.
