I just started this and already need help LOL You co 11 sts and it increases to 229 sts. On row 4 it says: ki, kfb, k to center sts, yo, k5, yo… You have 19 sts on needle in ro 3. Ho do you tell wherethe center sts are? You are lining up the hoes from the yos so it has tobe in the right place. TIA for y help
When you cast on the 11 sts, put a marker after sts 5 and 6. Number 6 is the center st and by putting a marker before and after it you will be able to identify it on each round.
I just finished this shawl and was a little confused too. The k5 sts on row 2 is when the markers should have been put in. Also a VERY IMPORTANT tip for when you get to the feather and fan section - row 1 requires putting in markers. After you finish the 4 row repeat and go to row 1 again, do not change the markers from where you put them the first time. I did this and ended up with a lot of ripping.
If you are on ravelry they have a kal group with advice from Kate Flagg that did the pattern. If I had not read this I probably would have given up on this pattern.
