Multiple

What does (multiple of 4 + 2) mean?

The pattern of the stitch takes (number of repeats times four) plus two stitches.

So if you want 20 repeats of the pattern, you’d need

(20 repeats x 4) + 2 stitches = 82 stitches

basically you do (i assume this is telling you how many to cast on) any multiple of 4 that works for your pattern size.

8, 12, 16, 20, 24, etc and then add two.

So you would cast on either 10, 14, 18, 22, 26, etc stitches.

like i said…i am assuming it is telling you to cast on a multiple of 4+2 but that’s how you figure it for whatever you are doing.

I am trying to make a backpack

It says to cast on 34 sts. Work 8 rows in Check Pattern

Stitch Pattern

Check Pattern (multiple of 4 + 2)
Rows 1 and 5 Knit.
Rows 2 and 6 Purl.
and so on.

Then your check pattern should be distributed across the 34 stitches like so:

x-oooo-oooo-oooo-oooo-oooo-oooo-oooo-oooo-x

The x’s are the outside edges of the check pattern, and the o’s are the part that’s actually repeated. (The -'s are just to emphasize the boundaries of the repeats).

looks like your multiple is already there. it is set up for 8 pattern repeats plus two extra stitches. (8x4)+2

out of curiosity…is there any mention of rows 3 & 4 in that pattern repeat?

Sorry, I’m new at posting

STITCH PATTERN

Check Pattern (multiple of 4 + 2)
Row 1 and 5 Knit.
Row 2 and 6 Purl.
Row 3 K1, (k2, p2) across, end k 1.
Row 4 P1, (k2,p2) across, end p 1.
Row 7 K1, (p2,k2) across, end k 1.
Row 8 P1, (p2,k2) across, end p 1.

:waving: Hey New Knitty! Just noticed you are in Cincinnati too. How are you liking the weather? :roflhard: Ok for ducks, I guess.

Hi Kemp,

If it wasn’t for the rain this morning it wouldn’t be so bad.

So it looks like

1 k-kkkk-kkkk-kkkk-kkkk-kkkk-kkkk-kkkk-kkkk-k
2 p-pppp-pppp-pppp-pppp-pppp-pppp-pppp-pppp-p
3 k-kkpp-kkpp-kkpp-kkpp-kkpp-kkpp-kkpp-kkpp-k
4 p-ppkk-ppkk-ppkk-ppkk-ppkk-ppkk-ppkk-ppkk-p
5 k-kkkk-kkkk-kkkk-kkkk-kkkk-kkkk-kkkk-kkkk-k
6 p-pppp-pppp-pppp-pppp-pppp-pppp-pppp-pppp-p

And I bet you have a typo on row 7 there
