Multi-coloured cast on/booga question

Well I picked up the wool for my Booger on Friday and am not sure how to start now! Since I couldn’t find colours I liked that went with the dark plum wool I had found, I decided to make a Hudson’s Bay point blanket style bag. I want to do the stripes vertically around the bag rather than horizontally. I have taken my stripe wool and divided it in two so that I will have separate strands for either side of my booger when doing the body. But the bottom is still a puzzle to me. How do I cast this on? I haven’t done the math yet, but I’m guesstimating about 5 stitches for each stripe, with 5 stitches of cream in between. I don’t want a cream coloured “sliver” cutting through the stripes on one edge of the bottom of the bag, but I don’t know how to cast on using multiple colours like this.

HELP PLEASE!!!

I would probably cast on in one of the colors and then start knitting the stripes.

OOOOOH! Provisional cast on!!! Then you can start knitting with your stripes and bind off the live stitches from the provisional with different colors!

THANK YOU INGRID!!! How did I know that you’d be the one to come to my rescue?

I haven’t done a provisional cast on yet… guess I’ll have to practice that a little bit before starting my booger. I spent about $40 on the wool for it {no knitpicks in Canada :frowning: }, so I don’t want to see a minor, yet extremely irritating {to me!} flaw in it. I think the provisional will make it easier to “pick up” my stitches for when starting the “in the round” part.

I bought at least 4 times the wool that the original required, so I should be good to go in that respect… just gotta learn the cast on.

I’ll post a stash shot of my booger wool in the general forum a little later… I need to weed through which pictures on my camera I took, and which ones Alex took while I was sleeping and his older sisters were watching him.

Here’s a good provisional cast on.

Thanks again Ingrid! It looks easy enough to do… like I don’t know what to do with a crochet hook! :roflhard: It will definitely make it much easier to “pick up” my first round on the booger and keep the stripes neat and straight.

I can’t wait to start my booger now! I gotta at least finish these two scarves first though. :verysad:
