What age group is the item intended for?
One of my knitty friends has a 9 year old. He went through all her knitting books and picked what he wanted on a hatā¦ Alterknit book by Andrea Rangel, the motif he pickedā¦ āPooping Pigā he thought it was hilarious.
I told my son who is a couple of years older, and he asked me to make him one!

Is this for a specific boy? If so Iād ask him, or his parents what things he likes. A favourite cartoon character maybe. Often boys get trains, cars, pirate motifs, various animalsā¦ but depends what he likes.
I had ny son draw out his own cartoon characters and turned them into a sweater, that went down well.

On Ravelry, search for āappliqueā and youāll get tons of ideas! 4,000 knit ones, over 20,000 crochet! You can refine the search by adding words like āfoxā, ābearā, āhorseāā¦and sometimes the applique will be included in a blanket or sweater pattern.
