last night my boyfriend as ked me to knit him a scarf. i think its great he’s asked me to do it. but, his mother knits scarves. nothing else just them. i havent even met her yet (she lives in the uk).
would i be stepping on her toes if i make it for him?
i’m in 2 minds. i havent spoken to kevin about it.i know he’d just say oh she’ll be absolutly fine as men do
Well he did ask, so it is not as if you are imposing your knitting on the family!
I would knit him the scarf but maybe keep it a fairly simple pattern, just in case she is the sort who thinks that anything fancy would be you deliberately trying to show her up!
Or you could use this as a way of getting to know her. Maybe a phone call such as ‘Kevin says you knot scarves, and i would like to knit him one, do you have any tips or patterns you could recommend?’ Nice way to get to know her, and (again if she is the sort) it keeps her involved so she can’t think you are taking it away from her.
I don’t think it would be a problem at all, but if you don’t feel comfortable with the idea then why not suggest making him something else? I don’t know what your level is, but maybe some socks or a nice blanket (so he can keep himself warm when you’re not there).
if i’d met her i would know if she’d be ok with it. i havent even spoken to her before.
i think i will make the scarf, but say to bf that only if he is sure she will be ok with it. and to ask her if she mids etc. just dont wana annoys her before i’ve met her (you know what mil’s are like).
I’m sure she won’t mind! She will probably be happy her son found a wonderful woman who also knits. The Irish Hiking scarf is a great pattern to learn cables. Or try the Palindrome scarfby our very own Silver! Once you do that you will be sick of them!
I’ve made both of those and loved them both, the Palindrome was a gift and well-appreciated. i also recommend The Touch of Whimsy Scarf. I knit it with 1 skein of Paton’s Merino in 1 weekend. It’s very nice and lacey! I’m INTO lace!
