More on Needles

First, a big thanks to all for your help. While going through yarn bins I came across some Boye and Susan Bates circular needles (Thanks Auntie):woot: . My problem now is discovering what size they are as they are not packaged:think: I do have the gauge with the holes in it (what is that called anyway:wink:) but I never could figure out how to properly use it. How far into the hole should the needle fit? Should it go only past the tip, midway???

It should go in to the straight part of the needle, past the tapered end. If it’s too loose but doesn’t fit in the next size smaller hole, then it may be a nonstandard in between size; most of the newer ones are more or less metric, but the older ones aren’t. Oh, it’s called a needle gauge.
