More help with instructions

I need some more clarification on instructions. I am working on a sweater and I am at the point of shaping the neck and shoulder. I have shaped the placket.
The instructions are:
FYI I am doing a stockinette stitch. (RS) at each neck edge, BO 2 sts then dec 1 st every other row 5 times. I know how to BO at the beginning of a row so I will be able to the right side of the neck (left section on my needle) but how do I BO the left side (first portion on my left needle). It will be the last 2 sts of that row. I know how to BO if I am done and can break the yarn but I can’t do that with this part.
For the second part I will be decreasing a st on the WS, right? And I do it on the neck edge, right?
I am so glad this forum is here. I have two knitting books that do not seem to help me with any of my questions.

You have to BO at the beginning of a row, so work to the end of the knit row and BO on the purl side. You could dec on either the RS or WS, depends which side of the neck.

So I am even more confused. Not your fault, just my idiocy. So I will actually complete 2 rows before I am done with the BO of both sides. I will BO the right part of the neck on the knit side and then BO the left part of the neck on the purl side? Then I am ready for the decreasing. What I don’t understand is won’t I do the decrease on both sides of the neck on the same row? It says to dec 1 st every other row 5 times. I guess I am interpreting that as if I am on the RS (after the 2 rows of BO), I will decrease both sides of the neck (on the neck edge) on the RS 5 times and do no decreases on the purl side. Ugh, I hate being a beginner.

You could dec on either side on the same row. If you’re doing it on the RS you could k2tog on one edge and SSK/skpo on the other.
