Apparently I’m still not clear … My needles are twisted in some strange pretzel-like ways no matter which way I try to pick up and knit around the rectangle …
Do I knit from right to left around the rectangle?
:??

You’ve got your stitches from the bottom on the right needle, then you pick up down the left side of the bottom as it faces you, then across the bottom, and back up the right side.
I remember reading somewhere that someone picked up some of the stitches with more than one needle because it was so awkward to start with. I’ll see if I can find it, or hopefully someone else with first hand experience with this will chime in.
When I pick up stitches around a rectangle like this, I drop the left portion of the circuliar needle and just let it lie dormant, dangling. I use just the point of the right half to pick up and knit the stitches. It may be more comfortable for some people to use a spare needle (in the left hand) to pick up the stitches while the left circ half dangles out of the way. Otherwise it’s really tight and awkward.
Ahh yes … finally! Thank you so much. THis time, there are no pretzels.
Oh Christina, I am so glad that someone else did this…I have done it TWICE! Once should have been enough, eh?

I had to come back to this to find out how you guys got me out of it last time!
I just wanted to comment on your awesome dog (that black lab is yours?)

That is my precious baby boy Cooper! He is 3 1/2 years old, and still acts like a total puppy!
Only way to fix it, is to tear it out up to the point where you start picking up stitches…luckily you dont have to worry about actually having to drop stitches…then…when you get back to that point, the needle with all the stitches on, that you would normally need to turn to work, you use that and start picking up around the edges…not the empty needle…if you begin to get into that twisted figure eight mode, you know you did it backwards, but not a problem to tear it out (like it can be other times).
Coopers a babe! Here is a link to some pics of my crew … the white bearded chocolate is gone now … after ten years together! Maxy is my yellows new pardner …
Thanks for the Booga info … it worked this time!
