Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts. I truly believe they made a difference. My Mom came through the lung cancer surgery really well. The frozen sections they did of the lymph nodes and other lung tissue while she was on the operating table showed that the cancer has not spread. Final more extensive pathology is being completed and we will know for sure on July 10.
The doctor was able to do the lobectomy removing the upper lobe of her left lung, leaving the lower lobe. He placed a port in case she has to have chemotherapy in the future which is likely since the tumor was larger than expected–we were expecting golf ball size–it turned out to be tennis ball size. However, she tolerated surgery extremely well–in fact her oxygen levels are better now (98%) than before surgery (94%) and she is [I]less [/I]fatigued. She had to spend three days in intensive care and had to have 2 units of blood because of anemia. She did so well that she came home on Friday afternoon after having surgery on Monday! (I wish I was as tough as she is!) She has five incisions and is very sore but is quite mobile considering her other limitations (PAD, diabetes, etc.)
We are all so thankful for the kindness and consideration everyone has shown us. We still have a long road to go but at least now she has a fighting chance. That’s all we have asked for.
