I started my first pair of socks (baby socks, thought I would start small) I have finished the ribbed cuff and now it is time to divide for the heel, the directions are for DPN’s but I am using magic loop how do I divide for the heel? Do I take all but the heel stitches off the needle and then knit the heel using the circ like straights? Can someone walk me through this or point me to a site that will? :??
Hello!
I tend to put the instep stitches on a holder or spare needle
and then use your needle like a straight to do the back and forth
on the heel stitches. I remember reading somewhere that you
can leave the instep stitches on the back part of the magic loop
and then work the heel back and forth but that tends to put a bit
of strain on the instep stitches and they could stretch out and
distort.
Someone else may have some other ideas for you! I don’t use
magic loop that often (I prefer 2 circs) so haven’t really worked
at solving problems like this hehe…

I’m knitting my second sock in magic loop, and what I did (after questioning here) was leave the instep sts on the cable, and pull out cable loops on either side of them, between them and the heel sts. Hope you get what I mean!
Just leave them on one side of the cable all by themselves, no need to remove them. Knit the other side as if on straights.
Thanks everyone. I knew there had to be another way. :cheering: I am off to try it.
