PROBLEM: Laddering on ML when starting on new needle.
SOLUTION: Hope you all can tell me 
Before switching the R needle, knit a couple more sts onto it, then switch. If you move them around it keeps the loops from sitting between the same 2 sts all the time and stretching them out. You might also have too short a needle but can use the single loop which doesn’t make ladders as much.

I’m knitting just one sock on a 47" circ. There is one thing that I’ve noticed according to the book, “2-at-a-time Socks”, by author Melissa Morgan-Oakes. For the learning she shows a practice sock pattern for a young child, which uses worsted weight yarn. When I made that pair…no ladders! Now, upon making socks, for my sis, using fingering weight sock yarn…ladders appear.

Yarn knit at a smaller gauge doesn’t stretch and retract as much as heavier yarn at a looser gauge I guess.

If you decide to respond to this need for further clarification, it would be much appreciated. If you are aggravated with me for not understanding your other explanations…I don’t blame you. Like I said before, pictures help me to understand things better. Thanks for trying to help me with this.
If you go to the Magic Loop video on the Adv Techniques page, you can see how the R needle is ‘looped’ to form the loop. Maybe the second tip on this page can help you understand what I mean by knitting a few more stitches before changing to an empty needle. It’s demo’d on dpns, but it works the same for ML too.
