Mittens with thumbs

I am having trouble figuring out how to make the thumbs on my mittens. I am working with DPN and I currently have 10 stitches on a holder. I have completed the round where I moved the stitches to the holder and am now on the next round. I am suppose to cast on 10 stitches. How do I do this? I tried casting on using the first 2 stitches on the holder and it seemed a little weird. Then I tried to use the stitches that are pass the holder and still on my left needle. That was very weird. I probably need to start with a new piece of yarn but, how do I cast on? Thanks for your help

I looked on a litte further and found a similar question and reply - Thank you Ingrid! I think I need to do a backward loop cast on. This forum is so great! Thanks everybody
